Term for the day : "CV Point"

Probably the most interesting thing about this place is the talk of “CV Points”.

See, since placements are such a big thing, the placement committee will personally verify each and every point you have written on your CV before they submit it to various firms. Thus each of these facts about your life that you would like to place before potential recruiters is vetted and verified by these folks. It is advertised as a “service” rendered by the placement department of the college to these firms. I think this in general makes sense. But with one caveat. There is an inherent conflict in the placement committee wanting to do an honest job out of this. This is because :

a) The committee is measured purely by its performance. The more the students they place in better jobs the easier is their life.

b) Rejecting and disallowing points on CVs that do not seem to have solid proof will essentially decrease the chances of that particular person interviewing with a firm.

The equilibrium is met at the point at which most CVs pass without any major damage to the place-com’s reputation and many people’s “CV Points” get through with or without solid evidence.

Anyhoo, the point of this post was to sort-of jot down this little dichotomy about which I was thinking, even though it is not a very pleasant thing to be talking about. And sorry if I didn’t state clearly what “CV Point” is (since I’m “introducing” it to you as a new term) – it means any point of qualification that you might have on your CV. Essentially anything that you state about yourself, especially the descriptive parts.

I shall follow up this post with a much more pleasant one about my second most favourite prof. And guess what subject he teaches?

HRM! Well, almost.

Jokatimes.com is now in second gear.

****

Intalgio 2009 is over.

We were 4th in the open quiz at Intaglio by a small margin.
Scores:
Jayashree Mohanka’s team a whopping 145
Two other teams (Gautam Ghosh’s team and Charanpreet Singh’s team) 95
Us : 85
Joy did a decent job. Good fun overall.

****

Got an offer by this guy to fund/bootstrap this tech idea i have. Haven’t thought about it yet.

Ramanand’s article on Pune’s winters reminds me of two things. The kind of essays we used to write in school for English and Marathi, and more importantly the awesome fun had last year attending Sawai and Vasantotsav. Sigh!

***

It’s only a week to term III mid terms, after which we have 5 weeks till first year ends. Yay!
